Aside — Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 17, 2026 · Operated by Alexey Shuliakouski ("Aside", "we", "us").

Aside is a personal-finance tool that helps self-employed people set money aside for taxes and
estimate their quarterly payments. Aside provides estimates and organization only — it is
not tax advice and does not file taxes on your behalf.
Information we collect
- Profile & preferences you provide: your set-aside rate, filing status and
home state, and the income and expenses you enter manually.
- Financial account data (via Plaid), with your consent: if you connect a bank
or card account, we access transaction information — descriptions, amounts, dates, and
categories — through Plaid Inc., our data-aggregation provider. We never
receive or store your bank login credentials. Plaid's handling of your data is governed by the
Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
- Operational data: to run and secure the service, our backend (Cloudflare)
keeps short-lived request logs that contain no financial-transaction contents. Aside includes
no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs.
How we use your information
- Aggregate and categorize your income and expenses, and attribute income to its source.
- Estimate taxes owed and how much to set aside; remind you of quarterly deadlines.
- Operate, secure, and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information and do not share your financial data
with third parties for their own marketing.
How your information is stored and shared
- Plaid — to connect your accounts and retrieve transactions on your behalf.
- Cloudflare — our infrastructure provider. Your Plaid access token and your
transaction data (descriptions, amounts, dates) are stored in Cloudflare Workers KV, encrypted
at rest, on our backend, and a copy of your transactions is also kept on your device to produce
your estimates. We keep the server copy while your account is linked and delete it when you
unlink or delete your account; the on-device copy is removed when you delete your data or
uninstall.
- Service providers strictly to operate the app.
- Legal — where required by law or to protect rights and safety.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Plaid secrets and access tokens are held
server-side and are never shipped in the app. Access to production systems is limited to the
operator and protected by multi-factor authentication. On your device, you can enable an optional
biometric app-lock (Face ID / Touch ID) that gates access to the app.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data only as long as needed to provide the service. You can disconnect a linked
account or delete your data at any time in the app; disconnecting revokes our access
token with Plaid. See our Data Retention & Deletion Policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g., California/CCPA, or the EU/UK GDPR), you may have the right to
access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. You can
delete your personal data at any time directly in the app (Settings → Delete my data).
Children
Aside is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect data from, individuals under 18.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will post the new effective date and, for material changes, notify
you in the app.
Questions: ashuliakousky@gmail.com · Data deletion is self-serve in the app (Settings → Delete my data).
